Al Anderson (NRBQ)
Al Anderson (born July 26, 1947, in Windsor, Connecticut) is an American guitarist and songwriter best known for his long tenure with the band NRBQ. He joined the band in 1971, replacing Steve Ferguson, and remained a member until 1994. His guitar playing, known for its distinctive tone and diverse influences including rockabilly, blues, and jazz, was a key element of NRBQ's sound.
During his time with NRBQ, Anderson contributed significantly to the band's songwriting and recorded on numerous albums including Workshop, All Hopped Up, Grooves in Orbit, and Peek-A-Boo. He was known for his energetic stage presence and his ability to play a wide range of musical styles.
After leaving NRBQ, Anderson formed The Wildweeds with original members from his early band, also called The Wildweeds (known for their 1967 hit "No Good Ann"). He has also worked as a session musician and continued to perform as a solo artist and with various other projects. His influence on guitar players and rock music is considerable, and his work with NRBQ is highly regarded.
