Mid Scotland and Fife (European Parliament constituency)
Mid Scotland and Fife was a European Parliament constituency covering the Mid Scotland and Fife region of Scotland. It existed from 1999 to 2019.
The constituency elected six Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) using the D'Hondt method of party-list proportional representation. This electoral system meant that voters cast their ballots for a political party, and the seats were allocated based on the proportion of votes each party received.
The constituency was created in 1999, following the European Parliamentary Elections Act 1999, which altered the electoral system for European elections in the United Kingdom. Prior to 1999, Scotland was represented by eight single-member constituencies.
The area covered by Mid Scotland and Fife included the council areas of Clackmannanshire, Falkirk, Fife, Perth and Kinross, and Stirling.
Following the United Kingdom's withdrawal from the European Union on 31 January 2020, the constituency was abolished, and Scotland is no longer represented in the European Parliament. The last MEPs to represent Mid Scotland and Fife stood down on that date.
