Lisa Wede
Lisa Wede is an American political theorist and Professor of Political Science at the University of Chicago. Her research focuses on issues of racial justice, democratic theory, and political obligation, particularly within the context of American political thought and history.
Wede's work explores the intersection of race, class, and gender, examining how these categories shape individuals' political experiences and relationships to the state. She is known for her critical analysis of concepts like civic responsibility and the social contract, questioning their applicability and relevance in light of historical and ongoing racial inequalities. Her scholarship often engages with the work of canonical political theorists while also drawing on Black political thought and critical race theory.
Wede has published extensively in leading academic journals and is the author of the book "Prisoners of the State: Black Politics, Public Safety, and American Liberalism". She is also a frequent commentator on contemporary political issues, offering insights on topics such as racial disparities in the criminal justice system, voting rights, and social movements.
