La Caixa
La Caixa was a Spanish savings bank (in Catalan, caixa d'estalvis) formerly known as Caja de Ahorros y Pensiones de Barcelona. Founded in 1904, it was a major financial institution in Catalonia and Spain. It focused on retail banking, insurance, and asset management.
In 2011, "La Caixa" transferred its banking business to CaixaBank, a publicly traded company. "La Caixa" itself became a holding company, Criteria Caixa, which owned a significant stake in CaixaBank and other investments. The original "La Caixa" no longer operates as a savings bank. The social and charitable activities previously undertaken by "La Caixa" are now carried out by the Fundación "La Caixa" (La Caixa Foundation).
Therefore, while "La Caixa" is no longer a functioning savings bank, its legacy continues through CaixaBank and the Fundación "La Caixa."
