Belamoty
Belamoty is a term used primarily in Madagascar, referring to a specific type of tree, Diospyros perrieri. It is a member of the ebony family (Ebenaceae) and is known for its dense, dark-colored wood. This wood is highly valued for its strength, durability, and aesthetic qualities, and is used in the production of fine furniture, carvings, and other crafted objects. Due to its slow growth and the high demand for its wood, the Belamoty tree is considered a threatened species in Madagascar. Conservation efforts are underway to protect remaining populations and promote sustainable harvesting practices. The name "Belamoty" itself is a local Malagasy term.
