Kopylki

Kopylki (Belarusian: Капылькі) is a type of traditional Belarusian folk footwear. They are simple sandals, often made from bast (inner bark of the linden tree) or other readily available materials like leather or straw. Kopylki are characterized by their basic construction, often featuring a flat sole and simple straps or ties to secure them to the feet. They were historically worn by peasants and rural populations in Belarus, primarily during warmer months. Their design reflects the practical needs of agricultural work and everyday life in a rural setting, emphasizing affordability and ease of construction using locally sourced resources. While no longer commonly worn as everyday footwear, Kopylki remain a part of Belarusian cultural heritage and are sometimes seen in folk performances or historical reenactments.
