Kill Your Friends (film)
Kill Your Friends is a 2015 British black comedy crime film directed by Owen Harris. It is based on the 2008 novel of the same name by John Niven, who also wrote the screenplay.
The film stars Nicholas Hoult as Steven Stelfox, an A&R executive working at a London record label during the Britpop era of the late 1990s. Driven by ambition, a ruthless desire to climb the corporate ladder, and fueled by drugs and alcohol, Stelfox engages in increasingly unethical and violent behavior in his pursuit of success.
The plot revolves around Stelfox's desperate attempts to sign the next big musical act while navigating the cutthroat world of the music industry. He is under pressure from his superiors and faces fierce competition from rival A&R reps. As his life spirals out of control, Stelfox resorts to extreme measures, including murder, to eliminate his rivals and secure his position.
The film features a dark and satirical tone, offering a cynical commentary on the music industry, fame, ambition, and the excesses of the 1990s. It received mixed reviews upon release, with some critics praising its dark humor and Hoult's performance, while others found it to be overly violent and nihilistic. The supporting cast includes James Corden, Craig Roberts, Tom Riley, Georgia King, and Edward Hogg.
