Blood Ties (2013 film)
Blood Ties is a 2013 crime thriller film directed by Guillaume Canet. It is a remake of the 2008 French film Les Liens du Sang (also directed by Canet and starring François Cluzet and Canet himself), which was in turn based on the 1986 novel Two Brothers by Bruno Papet. The film stars Clive Owen, Billy Crudup, Marion Cotillard, Mila Kunis, Matthias Schoenaerts, Zoe Saldana, and James Caan.
Set in 1970s Brooklyn, New York, the film explores the complex and troubled relationship between two brothers, Chris (Clive Owen), a recently released convict with a history of violence, and Frank (Billy Crudup), a police officer struggling to balance his duty to the law with his loyalty to his brother. Chris tries to reintegrate into society but finds himself drawn back into a life of crime. Frank attempts to help his brother but is increasingly torn as Chris's actions endanger both their lives and the lives of those around them.
The film premiered at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival. It received mixed reviews, with critics praising the performances of the cast and the film's atmosphere but criticizing its pacing and lack of originality compared to the original French film.
