NBA Hoopz
NBA Hoopz is a 3-on-3 arcade basketball game developed and published by Midway Games in 2001. It is considered a spiritual successor to the popular NBA Jam series, retaining a similar over-the-top, fast-paced gameplay style with exaggerated dunks, alley-oops, and on-fire mode.
The game features real NBA players and teams from the 2000-2001 season. Unlike traditional basketball, NBA Hoopz eliminates fouls and free throws, further emphasizing the arcade-style action. Players can perform special moves and earn "Hoopz points" for spectacular plays, which can then be used to unlock hidden characters and features. A significant element of the gameplay involves the "on-fire" mechanic, where a player who scores consecutive baskets becomes temporarily invulnerable and gains enhanced abilities.
NBA Hoopz was released on various platforms, including PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube, and arcade cabinets. While it received mixed reviews, generally regarded as inferior to the NBA Jam titles, it still maintained a fanbase attracted to its arcade-style basketball experience.
