David Millar (civil servant)

David Millar (born 1945) is a British civil servant who served in various roles within the UK government, primarily focused on economic policy and regulation. He is best known for his extensive career in the Treasury, culminating in his role as Director General, Fiscal Policy, and for his subsequent appointment as Chief Executive of the Financial Reporting Council (FRC).

Millar's career in the civil service began in the 1960s. During his time at the Treasury, he contributed to the development and implementation of economic policies under several Chancellors of the Exchequer. He was particularly involved in areas such as fiscal forecasting, public spending, and taxation.

Following his retirement from the Treasury, Millar was appointed Chief Executive of the Financial Reporting Council in 2005. The FRC is the UK's independent regulator responsible for promoting high quality corporate governance and reporting. His tenure at the FRC saw significant changes in the regulatory landscape, including increased scrutiny of corporate accounting practices and the implementation of new auditing standards. He retired from the FRC in 2010.
