Terranova (TV)
Terranova is a frazione (a subdivision, similar to a hamlet or village) of the comune of Maniace, within the Metropolitan City of Catania, in Sicily, Italy. It is located in the Simeto valley, near the Nebrodi mountains.
Historically, Terranova was a feudal estate originally belonging to the Moncada family. In the 18th century, it was acquired by Admiral Horatio Nelson, 1st Viscount Nelson, as part of the Duchy of Bronte granted to him by King Ferdinand IV of Naples (later Ferdinand I of the Two Sicilies) in recognition of his services in suppressing the Neapolitan Republic in 1799. Nelson never visited the duchy, but he appointed administrators to manage the estate.
The main economic activity in Terranova is agriculture, with particular emphasis on the cultivation of olives and citrus fruits. It retains a rural character. The population is relatively small, and it is primarily known for its connection to the historical Duchy of Bronte and its association with Admiral Nelson.
