Xeroleuca

Xeroleuca refers to a genus of fungi within the Boletaceae family. These fungi are ectomycorrhizal, forming symbiotic relationships with the roots of trees, primarily in coniferous forests. Characteristics of Xeroleuca mushrooms include a dry cap surface, often with a velvety or fibrillose texture, and a stem that is typically ornamented with scales or reticulations. The pore surface is usually adnate to decurrent, meaning the pores extend down the stem to varying degrees. Spore color is typically brownish. Identification of Xeroleuca species can be challenging and often requires microscopic examination of spores and other anatomical features.
