Arpa (river)
The Arpa is a river in Armenia. It originates in the Vayots Dzor Province, flowing generally southwest through the province and then into the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan, where it eventually empties into the Aras River. The river is an important source of irrigation for the agricultural lands in both Armenia and Azerbaijan. Its length is approximately 128 kilometers (80 miles), with a significant portion of its course running through mountainous terrain. The Arpa River is also historically significant, having been a witness to numerous events throughout the region's rich history.
