Datu Ali
Datu Ali was a Moro (Muslim Filipino) chieftain in Mindanao who resisted American colonization in the early 20th century. He was a significant figure in the Moro Rebellion, a conflict between the United States Army and the Moro people in the southern Philippines.
Datu Ali ruled over the Pulangi River region in the province of Cotabato. He became known for his defiance against American attempts to disarm the Moro population and impose American authority. His resistance efforts included raids and ambushes against American soldiers and their collaborators.
Datu Ali's steadfast refusal to submit to American rule made him a symbol of Moro resistance. The Americans, facing continued opposition, eventually focused their efforts on capturing or killing him. After a period of pursuit, Datu Ali was killed in November 1905 during a battle with American forces near Kudal, Cotabato.
His death marked a turning point in the Moro Rebellion, although resistance continued even after his demise. He is remembered today in the Philippines as a courageous leader who fought to defend his people and their way of life against foreign intrusion. Datu Ali's actions contributed to the broader historical narrative of Moro resistance against external powers in the southern Philippines.
