Zhaoqing

Zhaoqing is a prefecture-level city in Guangdong province, China. Located on the west bank of the Pearl River Delta, it is a historical and cultural center with a long history dating back to the Qin Dynasty.

Geography: Zhaoqing is situated in western Guangdong, bordering Guangxi province to the west. It is characterized by diverse landscapes including mountains, rivers, and plains. The Xijiang (West River) flows through the city.

History: Zhaoqing has been inhabited for thousands of years. It served as a crucial transportation hub and military garrison throughout Chinese history. The city is also notable for housing the Italian Jesuit missionary Matteo Ricci for several years in the late 16th century, where he established the first European-style map of China.
