John Hart (baseball)

John Hart is a former Major League Baseball executive. He is best known for his tenures as general manager of the Cleveland Indians (1991-2001) and the Texas Rangers (2001-2005), and as president of baseball operations for the Atlanta Braves (2014-2017).

During his time with the Indians, Hart oversaw a period of significant success, building a team that reached the World Series twice (1995 and 1997) and dominated the American League Central division for much of the late 1990s. He was recognized for his player development acumen and his ability to acquire key players through trades and free agency. Notable players acquired during his tenure include Jim Thome, Manny Ramirez, Omar Vizquel, and Sandy Alomar Jr.

After leaving Cleveland, Hart served as general manager of the Texas Rangers. Although the Rangers did not achieve the same level of success as the Indians during his tenure, he laid the groundwork for their future success.

Later in his career, Hart served as a consultant and then as interim general manager and president of baseball operations for the Atlanta Braves. He was instrumental in rebuilding the Braves' farm system and acquiring young talent that would eventually lead to the team's resurgence. He stepped down from his role in Atlanta in 2017.
