Katreus

In Greek mythology, Katreus was a king of Crete, son of Minos and Pasiphae, and brother to Ariadne, Androgeus, Deucalion, and Phaedra. He had four children: Aerope, Clymene, Apemosyne, and Althaemenes.

An oracle foretold that Katreus would be killed by one of his children. Fearing for his life, Althaemenes left Crete with his sister Apemosyne and settled in Rhodes to avoid fulfilling the prophecy.

Later in life, Katreus set out to find Althaemenes and convince him to return to Crete and succeed him as king. He landed on the shores of Rhodes, but was not recognized by the local shepherds, who mistook him and his crew for pirates. A fight ensued, during which Althaemenes, hearing the commotion and rushing to defend the island, unknowingly killed his own father, Katreus, thus fulfilling the oracle's prophecy.
