Kaiping

Kaiping is a county-level city located in Guangdong province, People's Republic of China. It is administered as part of the Jiangmen prefecture-level city. Kaiping is known for its distinctive diaolou (碉樓) fortified multi-story towers, which are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. These structures represent a unique blend of Chinese and Western architectural styles and were built primarily in the early 20th century by overseas Chinese who returned to their ancestral villages with wealth and knowledge.
