SummerSlam (2004)
SummerSlam (2004) was a professional wrestling pay-per-view event produced by World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) on August 15, 2004, at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It was the seventeenth annual SummerSlam event. The show featured wrestlers from both the Raw and SmackDown! brands.
The main event on the Raw brand was a singles match for the World Heavyweight Championship between Chris Benoit and Randy Orton. The main event on the SmackDown! brand was a singles match for the WWE Championship between John "Bradshaw" Layfield (JBL) and Kurt Angle. Other prominent matches included a No Disqualification match between Triple H and Eugene, and a match between Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio.
SummerSlam (2004) is notable for being the event where Randy Orton won the World Heavyweight Championship from Chris Benoit, becoming the youngest World Heavyweight Champion in WWE history at the time. The event had an attendance of approximately 17,640 and received generally positive reviews.
