John Hambley (martyr)

John Hambley (died 1555) was an English Protestant martyr burned at the stake during the Marian persecutions. He was a husbandman from Somerset, and suffered for his religious beliefs in Launceston, Cornwall, along with several others, under the authority of Queen Mary I. Little specific detail is available regarding his life or the exact charges laid against him beyond his Protestant faith and refusal to recant. He is remembered in Protestant martyrologies, including Foxe's Book of Martyrs, as one who remained steadfast in his faith despite the threat of death. His martyrdom is seen as a symbol of resistance against religious oppression during a turbulent period in English history.
