John Callan (politician)
John Callan (born circa 1851, died 1918) was an Irish nationalist politician. He served as Member of Parliament (MP) for County Louth in the Parliament of the United Kingdom.
Callan was elected as an Irish Parliamentary Party MP for Louth North in the 1880 general election, holding the seat until 1885 when the constituency was divided. He then represented Louth South from 1885 until he resigned in 1892.
Known for his independent streak and occasionally turbulent relationship with the Irish Parliamentary Party leadership, Callan often voiced criticisms of the party's strategy. His resignation from Parliament came amidst disagreements over Parnell's leadership after the O'Shea divorce scandal. After leaving Parliament, he largely withdrew from active political life.
