Jim McCann (musician)

Jim McCann (1944 – 2015) was an Irish folk musician and ballad singer, best known as a member of The Dubliners.

McCann joined The Dubliners in 1974, replacing Ciarán Bourke. He brought a strong vocal presence and stagecraft to the group, having previously worked as a stage actor. His tenure with The Dubliners lasted until 1979, when he left to pursue a solo career.

As a solo artist, McCann released several albums and toured extensively, both in Ireland and internationally. He was known for his powerful baritone voice and his engaging stage presence. His repertoire included traditional Irish folk songs, contemporary ballads, and his own compositions. Some of his most popular songs include "Grace," "The Cliffs of Dooneen," and "Carrickfergus."

McCann faced a battle with throat cancer later in life which eventually affected his voice. Despite these challenges, he continued to perform occasionally.

Jim McCann's contribution to Irish folk music is significant. He is remembered as a gifted singer, a charismatic performer, and a key figure in the history of The Dubliners.
