Walter Berry (basketball)
Walter Berry (born May 14, 1964) is an American former professional basketball player. He was a standout college player at St. John's University in the mid-1980s, known for his scoring ability and aggressive style of play.
Berry led St. John's to the NCAA Tournament Final Four in 1985 and was named the Most Outstanding Player of the East Regional. He was also named the USBWA College Player of the Year and won the John R. Wooden Award as the nation's best college basketball player in 1986.
Berry was drafted by the Portland Trail Blazers with the 14th overall pick in the 1986 NBA draft. He played for several NBA teams, including the Trail Blazers, San Antonio Spurs, New Jersey Nets, and Sacramento Kings. His NBA career was relatively short, lasting only five seasons.
Following his NBA career, Berry played professionally overseas, achieving significant success in Europe and other international leagues. He was known as a prolific scorer and earned several accolades playing abroad. He is remembered for his college dominance and his international career, though his NBA career did not reach the same heights.
