Ricardo dos Santos (surfer)

Ricardo dos Santos (1990 – 2015) was a Brazilian professional surfer known for his tube riding abilities, particularly at Teahupo'o in Tahiti. He was born in Guarda do Embaú, Santa Catarina, Brazil.

Santos gained international recognition for his performances in heavy wave conditions and frequently competed in World Surf League (WSL) events as a wildcard entrant, consistently challenging top-ranked surfers. His skills were especially evident in powerful reef breaks.

He was shot and killed on January 20, 2015, in Guarda do Embaú, his hometown. The circumstances surrounding his death sparked outrage and calls for justice in the surfing community and beyond. His death highlighted issues of violence and safety in Brazil.

Santos's legacy continues through the impact he had on big wave surfing and the memories shared by those who knew him. He is remembered as a fearless and talented surfer who pushed the limits of the sport.
