Tri Yann

Tri Yann is a Breton folk rock band from Nantes, France. Formed in 1971, they are known for modernizing traditional Breton folk music with electric instruments and arrangements. Their name is derived from the Breton words "tri" (three), "yann" (Jean, a common Breton first name), meaning literally "the three Jeans", referring to the three founding members: Jean-Louis Jossic, Jean Chocun and Jean-Paul Corbineau.

Tri Yann's music incorporates elements of Celtic music, rock, and medieval influences. Their repertoire includes both original compositions and arrangements of traditional Breton songs and tunes. They are known for their powerful vocals, complex instrumental arrangements, and theatrical stage presence.

Throughout their long career, Tri Yann has released numerous albums and toured extensively, both in France and internationally. They have played a significant role in popularizing Breton music and culture. Their songs often address themes of Breton history, identity, and folklore. After a career spanning nearly 50 years, Tri Yann officially retired in 2019, following a farewell tour.
