La Mussara (Vilaplana)

La Mussara was a village located in the municipality of Vilaplana, in the comarca of Baix Camp, Tarragona, Catalonia, Spain. Abandoned in the mid-20th century, it is now a ghost village, attracting visitors interested in its history and the surrounding natural landscape. The village is situated at a high altitude in the Prades Mountains, offering panoramic views.

Historically, La Mussara's economy was based on agriculture, particularly the cultivation of hazelnuts and almonds. Factors contributing to its abandonment included the harsh living conditions, lack of infrastructure, and the lure of better opportunities in larger towns and cities during the industrialization of Spain.

Today, the ruins of La Mussara consist of stone buildings, including the church of Sant Salvador, many of which are in a state of disrepair. The village has become a popular hiking destination and is often shrouded in mist, adding to its mysterious atmosphere. Despite its abandonment, La Mussara retains cultural significance and is associated with various local legends and stories.
