Gat (landform)
A gat is a narrow or restricted passage of water, often naturally formed. It commonly refers to a channel between shoals or sandbanks, allowing passage for boats or ships. The term is frequently used in coastal regions and areas with tidal influence, where shifting sediments and currents create complex waterway systems. Gats can be hazardous to navigation due to their shallow depths, strong currents, and the potential for sudden changes in channel configuration. They are often marked by buoys or other navigational aids. In some regions, the term gat can also refer to a narrow opening or break in a coastline feature such as a cliff or headland.
