Jim Dowd (ice hockey)
Jim Dowd (born December 25, 1968) is a retired American professional ice hockey player. A native of Brick Township, New Jersey, Dowd played center and was known for his playmaking abilities and face-off prowess.
Dowd's professional career spanned from 1991 to 2013. He was drafted by the New Jersey Devils in the 12th round, 262nd overall, in the 1987 NHL Entry Draft. He played for 10 different NHL teams: the New Jersey Devils, Vancouver Canucks, New York Islanders, Calgary Flames, Edmonton Oilers, Philadelphia Flyers, Carolina Hurricanes, Minnesota Wild, Montreal Canadiens, and Colorado Avalanche.
Dowd was a member of the New Jersey Devils' 1995 Stanley Cup-winning team. His contributions during that playoff run, particularly his face-off wins and responsible defensive play, were significant.
Prior to his NHL career, Dowd played college hockey at Lake Superior State University, where he won an NCAA Championship in 1988. He was inducted into the Lake Superior State University Hockey Hall of Fame in 2014.
Following his NHL career, Dowd continued to play professional hockey in the minor leagues. He retired professionally after playing for the Trenton Titans of the ECHL during the 2012-2013 season.
Dowd has remained active in the hockey community, involved in coaching and mentoring youth hockey players in New Jersey.
