James D. Herbert (psychologist)
James D. Herbert is an American clinical psychologist, researcher, and author known for his work on acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and its application to various psychological disorders and human behavior. He is currently a Professor of Psychology at Drexel University.
Herbert's research interests include the development and evaluation of acceptance-based behavioral therapies, particularly ACT, for anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and other conditions. He has also explored the use of ACT in promoting health behaviors and well-being.
He is the author of several books and articles on ACT, including publications aimed at both clinicians and the general public. His work has contributed significantly to the understanding and dissemination of ACT as an empirically supported treatment approach.
Herbert received his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He is a licensed psychologist and maintains an active clinical practice in addition to his academic pursuits.
