Italian frigate Virginio Fasan (F 591)

The Virginio Fasan (F 591) is a FREMM (Fregata Europea Multi-Missione) multi-purpose frigate of the Italian Navy (Marina Militare). She is the second vessel of the Carlo Bergamini-class, and was commissioned in 2013.

The Virginio Fasan is named after Admiral Virginio Fasan, a highly decorated officer of the Regia Marina (Royal Italian Navy) during World War II.

As a FREMM vessel, the Virginio Fasan is designed for anti-submarine warfare (ASW), anti-surface warfare (ASuW), and air defense roles, as well as for supporting maritime interdiction operations and protecting national interests. She is equipped with a modern suite of sensors and weapons systems, including a 76mm Super Rapid gun, Aster 15 and Aster 30 surface-to-air missiles, anti-ship missiles, torpedoes, and electronic warfare systems. The ship is also capable of operating a helicopter.

The Virginio Fasan has participated in numerous national and international exercises and operations since her commissioning, contributing to maritime security and stability in the Mediterranean Sea and beyond. Her homeport is La Spezia, Italy. The vessel represents a significant component of the Italian Navy's modern fleet, contributing to its overall capabilities and operational readiness.
