Interstate 440 (Tennessee)

Interstate 440 (I-440), also known as the "Inner Loop" or "440 Parkway," is a 7.6-mile (12.2 km) auxiliary Interstate Highway that forms a partial beltway around Nashville, Tennessee. The highway primarily serves as a commuter route, connecting the western and southern suburbs of Nashville, and providing access to several major roadways, including Interstates 24 and 65.

I-440 is entirely located within Davidson County. It runs from its western terminus at I-40 near White Bridge Road to its eastern terminus at I-24 near Donelson Pike. The road's design is notably different from most Interstate Highways in the state, featuring a lower speed limit (55 mph), several sharp curves, and closely spaced exits. These design characteristics have contributed to it being perceived as a congested and accident-prone route despite its relatively short length.

Construction of I-440 began in the late 1980s and it was completed in 1987. Originally designed to relieve traffic congestion on I-40 through downtown Nashville, it has itself become a heavily traveled corridor. Ongoing efforts have been made to improve safety and traffic flow on I-440, including resurfacing projects and potential modifications to interchange configurations.
