Gidding
Gidding is a small village and civil parish in the Huntingdonshire district of Cambridgeshire, England. It is situated approximately 7 miles (11 km) west of Huntingdon. Historically, Gidding, sometimes referred to as Great Gidding to distinguish it from nearby Little Gidding, was an agricultural community.
The parish church in Gidding is dedicated to St Michael. It is a historic building with features dating back to the medieval period.
Gidding is perhaps best known for its proximity to Little Gidding, the location of a religious community founded by Nicholas Ferrar in the 17th century. While Gidding and Little Gidding are separate entities, they are often linked due to their geographic proximity and historical relationship. The two villages are relatively close, and the influence of the Little Gidding community extended to the surrounding area, including Gidding. Therefore, when discussing Little Gidding, the name Gidding might be invoked as the closest nearby village.
