Pilot (No Ordinary Family)

The "Pilot" refers to the first episode of the American superhero television series No Ordinary Family. It originally aired on ABC on September 28, 2010. The episode introduces the Powell family – Jim, Stephanie, Daphne, and JJ – as they struggle with everyday life, each facing individual challenges. Jim, a police sketch artist, feels disconnected from his family and frustrated with his stagnant career. Stephanie, a successful scientist, is dedicated to her work and struggles to balance it with family life. Daphne, their teenage daughter, is rebellious and deals with typical teenage angst. JJ, their son, is academically challenged and feels overlooked.

During a family trip to Brazil aimed at reconnecting, their plane crashes in the Amazon River. The family survives, but each member develops unique superpowers as a result of exposure to an unknown substance during the crash. Jim gains super strength and invulnerability, Stephanie gains super speed, Daphne gains telepathy, and JJ gains super intelligence.

The "Pilot" episode focuses on the family discovering their powers and beginning to understand the implications of their newfound abilities. It also introduces the core concept of the series: the family working together to use their powers for good while attempting to maintain a semblance of a normal life. The episode sets up ongoing storylines and introduces recurring characters, including Dr. Dayton King, Stephanie's boss and the one who appears to understand the source of their powers, and George St. Cloud, Jim's best friend and confidant.
