IZD Tower
The IZD Tower is a 65-story skyscraper located in Vienna, Austria, specifically in the Donau City district. Officially known as DC Tower 1, it is Austria's tallest building, standing at 220 meters (722 feet) to its roof and 250 meters (820 feet) including its spire.
Designed by French architect Dominique Perrault, the DC Tower 1 is characterized by its distinctive asymmetrical design, featuring a "cut-out" section on one side of the building. This unconventional shape is not merely aesthetic but also serves a functional purpose, intended to minimize wind resistance and create a dynamic architectural landmark.
Construction of the IZD Tower commenced in 2010 and was completed in 2014. It serves primarily as an office building, housing the headquarters of various companies, including public and private sector entities. In addition to office spaces, the tower features a hotel (Meliá Vienna), restaurants, bars, and a fitness center.
The IZD Tower is a significant landmark in Vienna's skyline and a symbol of the modern development of the Donau City area. It is well-connected to public transportation and represents a key element in Vienna's efforts to modernize and expand its urban landscape. The building has received attention for its architectural design and its role in the city's contemporary identity.
