Husky (toy brand)

Husky was a die-cast toy car brand produced by Mettoy Playcraft Ltd., the makers of Corgi Toys. Introduced in 1964 as a budget line, Husky models were smaller and simpler than their Corgi counterparts, generally lacking the elaborate features and detailed paint jobs. This allowed them to be sold at a lower price point, making them accessible to a wider audience.

Key characteristics of Husky toys included their one-piece casting, often featuring minimal interior detailing and simpler wheel designs. They were primarily sold in blister packs.

In 1969, Mettoy rebranded the Husky range as Corgi Juniors. The change was primarily cosmetic, as the basic models remained largely unchanged. The Corgi Juniors range continued to focus on smaller scale models and included vehicles licensed from television shows and movies, expanding beyond the original Husky focus on realistic automobiles and trucks. The name change reflected a desire to consolidate the Mettoy toy lines under the well-established Corgi brand, aiming to capitalize on Corgi's existing market recognition and perceived quality. The introduction of Whizzwheels on some models later in the Corgi Juniors run further distinguished them from the earlier Husky line.
