Mall (film)
Mall is a 2014 American crime thriller film directed by Linkin Park's Joe Hahn, based on the 2000 novel of the same name by Eric Bogosian. The film stars Vincent D'Onofrio, Gina Gershon, Cameron Monaghan, India Eisley, and James Frecheville. It features a score composed by Mike Shinoda, also of Linkin Park, with contributions from Alec Puro.
The plot revolves around a group of disaffected people whose lives intersect when a disgruntled methamphetamine addict named Malcolm (Cameron Monaghan) goes on a shooting spree in a shopping mall. The film explores themes of suburban alienation, societal disillusionment, and the search for meaning in a consumerist culture.
Malcolm's motivations for the shooting are revealed through flashbacks to his troubled past and his struggles with mental health issues. The other characters caught up in the chaos include Jeff (James Frecheville), an aspiring artist struggling with depression; Donna (India Eisley), a rebellious teenager who befriends Jeff; Barry (Vincent D'Onofrio), a businessman grappling with his own personal demons; and Loretta (Gina Gershon), a bored housewife seeking excitement.
The film received mixed reviews, with some critics praising its stylistic visuals and exploration of dark themes, while others criticized its reliance on shock value and its lack of character development.
