Nyu Dam
Nyu Dam is a rockfill dam located in Nyuzen, Toyama Prefecture, Japan. It was constructed on the Nyukawa River, a tributary of the Kurobe River, primarily for flood control, irrigation, and hydroelectric power generation.
The dam has a height of approximately 98 meters and a crest length of around 285 meters. The reservoir created by the dam, known as Lake Nyu, has a significant storage capacity, helping to regulate the flow of the Nyukawa River and mitigate the risk of flooding downstream.
Construction of the dam began in the mid-20th century and was completed in the latter half of the century. It plays a vital role in the region's water management infrastructure and contributes to both agricultural productivity and the supply of renewable energy through hydroelectric power. The dam is managed and operated by local or regional governmental authorities.
