Hesperozygis
Hesperozygis is a genus of flowering plants in the family Lamiaceae (mint family). It is native to South America, specifically found in Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Argentina. Plants belonging to Hesperozygis are typically perennial herbs or subshrubs characterized by their aromatic foliage. They possess opposite, often serrated leaves and produce flowers in verticillasters (whorls) arranged in terminal spikes. The flowers are usually bilabiate, with a distinct upper and lower lip, a common trait of the Lamiaceae family. The calyx is often ribbed or toothed. Further taxonomic research might be ongoing, and the classification of species within Hesperozygis might be subject to revisions as new information becomes available. Individual species within the genus may vary in size, habit, and floral characteristics. Further study of the pollination mechanisms and ecological roles of Hesperozygis species is needed.
