Heffron ministry (1959–1962)

The Heffron ministry was the New South Wales (NSW) state government led by Premier Robert Heffron from 1959 to 1962. Heffron assumed the premiership on 23 October 1959, following the resignation of Joseph Cahill. The ministry was formed from the Australian Labor Party (ALP), which held a majority in the New South Wales Legislative Assembly.

The Heffron government continued many of the policies of its predecessor, focusing on infrastructure development and social welfare. Key initiatives included advancements in education, particularly the expansion of secondary schooling. The government also oversaw continued growth in Sydney's infrastructure, including roads and public transport.

The Heffron ministry faced challenges related to economic conditions and internal party dynamics. Despite these pressures, the government successfully contested the 1962 state election, securing another term in office. However, Heffron would retire as Premier in 1964. His tenure is remembered for its focus on public services and consolidating the achievements of the previous Cahill government.
