Aerosud
Aerosud was a South African aerospace manufacturer established in 1981 and based at Wonderboom Airport, near Pretoria. The company was initially focused on providing maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services for a variety of aircraft. Over time, Aerosud expanded its capabilities to include aircraft design, development, and manufacturing.
One of Aerosud's most notable projects was its participation in the Saab JAS 39 Gripen programme. Aerosud was responsible for manufacturing significant components of the Gripen fighter aircraft, showcasing its advanced manufacturing capabilities and contributing to South Africa's participation in the international aerospace industry. The company also collaborated with other international aerospace firms on various projects.
Aerosud played a key role in developing South Africa's aerospace industry by fostering skills development and technological advancement. The company's involvement in the Gripen programme, in particular, helped to transfer valuable knowledge and expertise to South African engineers and technicians.
In 2013, Aerosud was acquired by Paramount Group, a South African defense and aerospace company. The acquisition integrated Aerosud's capabilities into Paramount Group's broader portfolio of defense and aerospace offerings. The Aerosud name is no longer actively used as a standalone brand.
