Permian Basin (North America)

The Permian Basin is a large sedimentary basin located primarily in West Texas and Southeastern New Mexico, in the United States. It is a major petroleum-producing area, responsible for a significant percentage of U.S. oil and natural gas production.

Geologically, the basin formed during the Permian Period, roughly 250-300 million years ago, when a shallow sea covered the region.
