Hard (Zurich)
Hard (Zurich) refers to a district (Kreis) in the city of Zurich, Switzerland. Kreis 4, commonly known as Aussersihl, is often colloquially called "Hard" by locals, although strictly speaking, "Hard" refers to a smaller area within Aussersihl.
The name "Hard" originates from the term "Hardwald," meaning a communal forest or pasture. Historically, the area was used as such by the people of Zurich.
Today, the Hard area and the broader Aussersihl district are known for their vibrant nightlife, diverse cultural scene, and multicultural population. It is a densely populated and relatively urbanized area, containing residential buildings, businesses, and entertainment venues. Prominent landmarks within or adjacent to Hard include the Prime Tower, the Hardbrücke railway station, and various social and cultural institutions. The Hardturm stadium, formerly home to the Grasshopper Club Zürich football team, was also located in this area until its demolition.
The area has undergone significant transformation and redevelopment in recent decades, including the construction of high-rise buildings and the modernization of infrastructure. While retaining some of its historical character, Hard is now a modern and dynamic part of Zurich.
