Infamy (album)
Infamy is the sixth studio album by American hip hop duo Mobb Deep, released on December 11, 2001, by Loud Records. It marked a departure from the grittier, hardcore sound that defined their earlier work, incorporating elements of R&B and a more mainstream production style.
The album features guest appearances from Lil' Mo, Vita, Nas, and Styles P. Havoc handled the majority of the production, with additional contributions from The Alchemist, Scott Storch, and others.
Infamy addresses themes of street life, violence, and the duo's struggles within the music industry. It was released following a highly publicized feud between Mobb Deep and Jay-Z, which influenced the album's tone and lyrical content. Several tracks directly or indirectly reference the conflict.
While Infamy achieved commercial success, peaking at number 22 on the Billboard 200 chart, critical reception was mixed. Some critics praised the album's polished production and willingness to experiment, while others criticized the perceived shift away from their signature sound and the weaker lyrical content compared to their earlier albums like The Infamous. Despite the mixed reviews, the album spawned several singles and remains a notable entry in Mobb Deep's discography.
