Shalom (band)

Shalom was a pioneering rock band from South Africa, formed in Johannesburg in the early 1970s. They are widely regarded as one of the first bands to bring South African rock music to a wider audience, both domestically and internationally.

The band's lineup consisted of brothers Selwyn and Neville Segal, who handled vocals, guitar, and keyboards respectively. They were joined by Allan Goldswain on bass and Clive "Bones" Barnett on drums.

Shalom's music blended elements of progressive rock, hard rock, and South African influences, creating a unique and distinctive sound. Their lyrics often dealt with social and political issues relevant to South Africa during the apartheid era, although they also explored universal themes of love, loss, and hope.

The band released several albums throughout the 1970s and early 1980s, including Shalom (1975), Man From The Man (1976), and Keep The Faith (1978). These albums garnered them critical acclaim and a dedicated following. Shalom toured extensively throughout South Africa and Europe, playing to large crowds and sharing the stage with many prominent international acts.

Despite their success, Shalom disbanded in the early 1980s. However, their music has continued to be appreciated by fans and music historians alike. Their albums have been reissued on CD, and their songs are still played on radio stations. Shalom is remembered as an important and influential force in the history of South African rock music.
