William Burdett-Coutts (promoter)

William Burdett-Coutts (1851-1921) was a British promoter and manager associated with entertainment and animal welfare. While often overshadowed by his more famous wife, Angela Burdett-Coutts, 1st Baroness Burdett-Coutts, William played a significant, though often behind-the-scenes, role in her philanthropic endeavors and in the promotion of various public spectacles.

Born William Ashmead-Bartlett, he adopted the surname Burdett-Coutts upon his marriage to Angela in 1881. His prior career included work as a journalist and correspondent, and he continued to leverage his skills in promotion and publicity to support his wife's charitable projects, including her work with the RSPCA.

Burdett-Coutts also possessed a keen interest in animal welfare and assisted in managing Angela's menagerie at Holly Lodge. He was involved in promoting events and exhibitions related to animals, including dog shows and other displays, helping to raise funds and awareness for animal causes. His organizational abilities and connections within London society were instrumental in the success of many of these ventures.
