HMS Quorn

HMS Quorn was the name of two ships of the British Royal Navy, both named after the Quorn Hunt, a famous fox hunt in Leicestershire, England.

The first HMS Quorn was a Hunt-class minesweeper of the Atherstone sub-class, launched in 1940 and commissioned in 1941. She served extensively during World War II, participating in operations in the North Sea, English Channel, and Mediterranean. Notably, she took part in the Dieppe Raid in 1942 and Operation Overlord (the Normandy landings) in 1944. She was mined and sunk off Normandy in August 1944.

The second HMS Quorn was also a Hunt-class mine countermeasures vessel, but of the Sandown class. Launched in 1988 and commissioned in 1989, she was designed to hunt and neutralize sea mines. She served in various deployments, including operations in the Persian Gulf and the Mediterranean. In 2017, she was decommissioned from the Royal Navy and sold to the Lithuanian Navy, where she was renamed Kuršis (M54).
