Lecuona

Ernesto Lecuona (1895-1963) was a Cuban composer, pianist, and conductor. He is best known for his contributions to Cuban music and his popular compositions, many of which have become standards in the Latin American repertoire.

Lecuona was born in Guanabacoa, Cuba. He was a child prodigy, giving his first public recital at the age of five. He studied music at the Peyrellade Conservatorio in Havana and later in Paris.

Lecuona composed over 600 pieces, including piano works, songs, orchestral suites, ballets, and zarzuelas. His most famous works include "Malagueña," "Siboney," "Andalucía Suite," and the zarzuela "María la O." His music is characterized by its vibrant rhythms, catchy melodies, and romantic harmonies, reflecting the rich musical traditions of Cuba.

Lecuona toured extensively throughout the world as a concert pianist and conductor, popularizing Cuban music internationally. He also wrote music for films and Broadway shows. He died in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain. His legacy continues to inspire musicians and audiences worldwide.
