In God We Trust (Brand Nubian album)

In God We Trust is the third studio album by American hip hop group Brand Nubian, released on February 2, 1993, on Elektra Records. The album followed their critically acclaimed debut, One for All, and the departure of group member Grand Puba, who left to pursue a solo career.

The album features a more militant and Afrocentric lyrical approach compared to their previous work. Topics explored on the album include social injustice, black empowerment, and spiritual awareness, delivered through the group's characteristic blend of hardcore beats and conscious rhymes. Sadat X and Lord Jamar take on the majority of the rapping duties, with DJ Alamo providing the production.

While In God We Trust was not as commercially successful as One for All, it reached number 29 on the Billboard 200 chart and spawned the singles "Punks Jump Up to Get Beat Down," "Word Is Bond," and "Hold On." The album received mixed reviews upon its release, with some critics praising its lyrical content and others criticizing its production and perceived lack of cohesion compared to their debut. Over time, In God We Trust has garnered a cult following and is regarded by some as an important and influential album in the conscious hip hop subgenre.
