Chattakkari (2012 film)
Chattakkari is a 2012 Indian Malayalam-language romantic drama film directed by Santosh Sethumadhavan and written by George Onakkoor. It is a remake of the 1974 film of the same name, which was based on Onakkoor's novel. The film stars Hemanth Menon and Lakshmi Rai in the lead roles.
The story revolves around the relationship between an Anglo-Indian woman, Annie, and a Nair youth, Sasidharan. The film explores the societal prejudices and cultural differences they face as they navigate their relationship during the British Raj era in Kerala. Annie is a teacher at a convent school, while Sasidharan is a student. Their love blossoms amidst the backdrop of a changing India.
The 2012 remake attempts to modernize the original story while retaining the core themes of love, societal pressures, and cultural identity. However, it received mixed reviews upon release, with critics comparing it unfavorably to the classic original. The film's music was composed by M. Jayachandran.
While the original Chattakkari is considered a landmark film in Malayalam cinema, the 2012 remake struggled to achieve the same level of acclaim and cultural impact. It is primarily remembered as a contemporary adaptation of a beloved classic.
