HMS M27

HMS M27 was a British Royal Navy M15-class monitor of World War I.

Design and Construction: M15-class monitors were designed to be relatively inexpensive and quickly built vessels suitable for shore bombardment. They were based on commercial designs, adapted for military use. HMS M27 was ordered on 12 March 1915 from Harland and Wolff, Belfast. She was launched on 15 May 1915 and completed in July 1915.

Armament: The primary armament of HMS M27 consisted of one 9.2-inch (234 mm) Mk VI gun in a single turret. She also carried one 3-inch (76 mm) anti-aircraft gun and a small number of machine guns.

Service History: HMS M27 served primarily in the Mediterranean Sea. She was involved in operations supporting the Gallipoli campaign, bombarding Turkish positions along the coast. After the evacuation of Gallipoli, she continued to operate in the Mediterranean, supporting Allied forces in the region. In 1919, she was transferred to reserve.

Fate: HMS M27 was sold for scrap on 21 October 1920.
